Soprano Kimberly Giordano is a rising young performer whose versatility and musicality serve her well in her varied roles. The Seattle Times and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer have hailed her as a voice “unusually polished” and “sterling,” combining “an honest performance with a full, warm soprano.” Ms. Giordano made her Carnegie Hall debut in March 2005 in Vaughan Williams’ Dona nobis pacem with the New England Symphonic Ensemble.
An interpreter of both contemporary and standard works, Ms. Giordano triumphed as Kelly in the West Coast premiere of Black Water, with music by John Duffy and libretto by Joyce Carol Oates. Of her performance, the Seattle Weekly said she sang her role “incisively and convincingly”, and Talkin’ Broadway said she “acts the role of Kelly with shading and conviction, and sings the score with beauty and passion. Giordano never makes a martyr of her character, but invests her performance with (such) warmth and heart…” She was also honored to sing Viola in Joel Feigin’s setting of Twelfth Night at the 2006 Opera America National Conference New Works Sampler.
Ms. Giordano has appeared on the stages of Lyric Opera Cleveland, Tacoma Opera, Aspen Opera Theater Center, Seattle Civic Light Opera, Off-Center Opera, Showtunes! Musicals in Concert, and NOISE in such roles as Pamina and Second Lady (The Magic Flute), Noémie (Cendrillon), Rose (Street Scene), Gretel (Hansel and Gretel), Adele (Die Fledermaus), and Madame Altina (La Divina). Her 2006 07 engagements include her role debuts as Micaëla in Carmen with Tacoma Opera and Giulietta in Bellevue Opera’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann. Previous season engagements include Elisa in Mozart’s Il re pastore with Off-Center Opera, Rosalba (Florencia en al Amazonas) for Seattle Opera Guild previews and Gretel in Hansel and Gretel with NOISE (Northwest Opera in Schools Etc.) An equally gifted musical theater performer, her roles include Kate/Lilli (Kiss Me Kate), Marian (The Music Man), and Milly (Seven Brides for Seven Brothers), Ms. Giordano’s cabaret outings include her celebrated one-woman show Here’s to Your Illusions! – A Celebration of Barbara Cook. On the concert stage, Ms. Giordano is quickly making her mark. She recently made her debut with the Helena Symphony, under Maestro Allan Scott, in Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Other concert appearances include Mozart’s C minor Mass with the Bremerton Symphony Association, and Vaughan Williams’ Dona nobis pacem with the New England Symphonic Ensemble at Carnegie Hall. In competition, Ms. Giordano was named a Finalist in the 2004 Vera Scammon SOS International Competition. She was a Finalist in the Ladies Musical Club of Seattle Award-Tour Competition in both 2002 and 2004, and won the Mary Levine Memorial Performance Grant in 2000.
